I waited tables for 8 years and my mental health was so bad I tried to kill myself not once, but twice. I'm just not strong enough to go back. Why is it that every entry level job needs you to have 5 years of experience and the promise of your firstborn son to even deign to LOOK at your application? Every job I've applied to I'm either grossly overqualified for or woefully underqualified for. And now, with far more qualified people than I am looking at these same jobs, what hope is there at all for me to get a job in my field? 152 job applications. 41 outright rejections. 1 interview, after which I was strung along for 2 weeks before finally receiving an infuriating rejection that stated I am, somehow, simultaneously overqualified and underqualified for the position. And 110 applications I will never know about. I'm shouting into a void that doesn't care and will never acknowledge me. I don't even care if these companies are nice about their rejection, as long as they give me a concrete answer so I can cross them off my depressingly long list of places I'm waiting to hear back from.
